Mahdollinen Moottoriblokki Problemi (Corsa A 1.5td)

:evil: I don't know much about cars, but my initial fear when it broke down this lunchtime was "cam-belt failure"! (I'm sure I heard something snap and then a horrible noise when I tried to re-start) Hopefully I'm wrong and its somthing very simple.

I've ordered a tow truck (via insurance/breakdown cover) just to get it into a garage to be looked at, but I won't do anything till I get a quote.

If it is the cam-belt though, then its not gonna be cheap! and I'm reluctantly thinking it might not be worth fixing, if the price estimate is over 1000€

I love my little Vauxhall Nova (Opel Corsa A), but I might have to start thinking what to get next? Or what I can afford next?

Any advice or sympathy welcome...

good news and bad news... Its not the cam belt. But it could be something just as bad or worse. Apparently the engine casing is damaged. I will find out tomorrow the full extent of the dancage and the estimated cost...

What do you mean by engine casing? In any case, it might be difficult to source second hand parts for that engine here in Finland, not the most common engine in these parts of the world..

Is your car really an rhd Vauxhall?

The problem turned out to be 2 bolts in the right hand side engine mounting. So the engine had fallen down on top of the alternator, which luckily wasn't damaged.

Parts = few euros
Labour = over 400 euros!!
The look on my face when I was told the final bill :o - Priceless!
For everything else there is VISA card :evil:

I was very tempted to ask them for a job. It takes me 6 days to earn what they charged me for 4 hours. Anyway it could have been a lot worse and my car is now back on the road.......... although I'm not sure how much Diesel I can afford now... and then next month it needs Katsastus :roll:
