The engine was an uprated 3.0 litre unit, the C30XEI. The crankshaft had 8 instead of 12 counterweights, and the weight of the crankshaft was reduced from 29,5 kg, to 23 kg. This was nescessary, as the race engines had a maximum engine speed at 10 000 rpm. The pistons were shorter and lighter, while the rods were 10mm longer. The rods were made by 31 Cr Mo V9 steel, and they weighted 630 g, compared to 720 g for the original ones. The camshafts had 0.5mm higher lift, the valve diameters were increased by 1mm, and the 2. stage throttle valve was increased from 64mm to 66mm. The Motronic software was also upgraded. These modifications increased the power output to 230 hp.
